Scribes for SSC, HSC students with learning disabilities: Maharashtra

Students with learning disabilities, who are appearing for SSC and HSC board examinations this year, will get the assistance of scribes, the Maharashtra government informed Bombay High Court on Monday. As reported by The Indian Express, the decision comes after a suo motu petition by psychiatrists Dr Harish Shetty and Dr Sanghnaik Meshram, who raised concerns over the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS's) decision to withdraw scribe facility for students with learning disabilities few days before SSC and HSC exams last year.

The decision is going to benefit 41,795 students with learning disability aged between 15-16 years who will be appearing for the exams. The state government also informed HC that learning disability centers have started functioning in January in five districts of Dhule, Nanded, Chandarpur, Kolhapur and Miraj.
